I’ll get right out and say it: The Mille Miglia is the world’s greatest rolling car show. Now, I’m expecting 10-15 comments below this story listing Tour Auto, and umpteen other big classic rallies, but as far as I’m concerned, the Mille takes the cake.
Why? Because it’s not just the comical number of priceless vehicles entered into the rally. It’s not just the fascinating personalities behind the wheel of said cars. It’s also an entire nation of petrolheads rolling out the strangest, rarest, and boxiest-flared cars they can find to try and ride alongside the rally, park in front of the rally stops, and in general—just show off their wares on the world’s most beautiful driving roads.
Now, I was driving with team BMW Classic in an absolutely gorgeous 1937 328 Berlin-Rome Touring Roadster, which I’ll get to in a later post, but for now I’d love for you to enjoy some of the tastiest car porn I was able to spot along the way. Which of these vehicles would you love to see in person?
I happened to be in Tuscany in 2007. My wife comes out of the info office in Pienza. She asked do you know what the Mille Miglia is? After boring her with a lengthy explanation she tells me it is coming through here tomorrow. What a truly amazing event. The quality and the cars was breathtaking. The crowds were as much of a treat. The children, the grandparents and everyone in between created such excitement. So intimate, so thrilling it captured our hearts and left the most beautiful indelible memory. Bust the bank and go next year you will not regret it. TEB
