Visitors to this year’s Quail, A Motorsports Gathering held on the stunning fairways of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California will be able to see over 200 of the rarest and finest collector cars in the world. In addition to the traditional classes including Pre-War Sports and Racing, Custom Coachwork, Supercars, and The Great Ferraris, there will also be three new classes celebrating major automotive milestones, namely: 100 Years of Bentley Motors, the 25th Anniversary of the McLaren F1 and a Tribute to the Electric Car Movement.
“100 Years of Bentley Motors” will be recognizing Bentley’s centenary year with some of its most famous historic models as well as its latest designs including a 1929 Le Mans, a 1926 Speed Six, a 1958 S1 Continental Coupe by Park Ward, and a 2018 Supersports. 2019 also marks the 25th anniversary of arguably the finest analog supercar ever made, the McLaren F1. The “25th Anniversary of the McLaren F1” special class will focus on some of the finest examples of these legendary cars, including a 1997 F1 GTR Longtail chassis number 27R, one of only ten GTR Longtails ever made and the first to win a race.
Electric power is undoubtedly going to feature heavily in the future of the motor industry and to recognize the early pioneers. “A Tribute to the Electric Car Movement” will showcase some historic and rare examples of electric vehicles throughout history and the display will include an electric 1964 Volkswagen Microbus and a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle by Zelectric.
“Over its 17 years of celebrations, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering has become one of the most prestigious automotive events in the world with a truly unique atmosphere,” said Gordon McCall, director of motorsports for The Peninsula Signature Events. “All three of our 2019 featured classes will complement this atmosphere perfectly, and we are confident they will help to make the 2019 roster one of our most impressive to date.”
One of the many notable and special vehicles at the event will be a 1966 Cheetah owned by Mark Boen. It is the last of only 12 Cheetahs built and is thought to be the most original of all the surviving examples. “I’m thrilled to bring the 1966 Cheetah to the lawns of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering,” said owner Mark Boen. “I’ve displayed cars at this event each year since its inception, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to display such a rare and striking piece of automotive history.”
The Quail is a family and pet-friendly event and in addition to the broad variety of classic cars, there will be culinary pavilions, award-winning wine vendors and the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction taking place concurrently on the Quail Lodge Farm Field. The event takes place on 16 August and further information can be found on the link below.
