At What Time Of Day Do You Enjoy Driving The Most?

I have a feeling that many of you enjoy early morning drives as much as I do. The brisk temperatures, calm roads, and emerging light often seem perfect for enjoying a long, contemplative tour—maybe you want to get your kicks in before breakfast.

No harm in that, and you stand a great chance of seeing me doing the same thing if mornings are your thing. Chris Gonzalez, our marketplace operations manager, says he prefers a late-night drive because in Los Angeles, “it’s usually when the streets are not so busy and you can actually enjoy a nice drive—plus seeing the DTLA skyline at night is just so amazing”.

When you choose to go for a drive, do you prefer a certain time of day?

I enjoy in the evening just before sunset. I love the warm light and long shadows of that time of the day.

About a year ago I was working as a lift attendant at a local ski mountain. The early hours required me to hit the road just before sunrise. Those drives up the Vermont mountain roads has made early mornings the perfect time to drive. Non one is around, and the sunrise is as beautiful as you could want.

At the end of a long hard day, there’s nothing better to blow the stink off than to drop the top on a convertible sports car and take a midnight drive on long back-country roads. There’s little traffic, the engine sounds are symphonic, and the stars can be an amazing sight away from the city. On cooler nights, a lap blanket traps the heater’s air around my legs while my head clears in the cool night air. Afterwards I sleep like a baby.

Very early on sunday mornings especially in the spring or fall. The cool air and lack of traffic, bicyclists, joggers, and law enforcement all make for a pleasant experience. Keeping an eye out for wildlife is the only concern. Stopping by my favorite cafe afterwards for a coffee while watching the city awaken caps off the perfect morning.

I couldn’t agree more! Sunday mornings have less traffic due to church-goers in session and everyone else sleeping off their hangover.

I am an entrepreneur In Finland and most days are long at work. I often go after work around mid night to the country roads. Not oo much traffic and police are home sleeping. But visually, aesthetically early morning is best. The problem driving at dark hours or sunrise is that you have to be extra careful due to animals in country and forest sections.

Living in the city and not much of a morning person, right around 1-3 am is the best for me, preferably on weekdays, to get the minimal amount of traffic 😀

I really should go out more right about sunrise.

With you on this one Thomas, the road is clear around that time, you can even see the Galaxy outlines at night from our mountain pass…

At night, in a mountain road. In the morning there are too much bikers.

Early morning, right around sunrise. Much earlier and you need reliable headlights. Much later and the roads fill up with 10 speeds and joggers.

Early Saturday or Sunday morning drive through New Forest National Park (UK) in my 1.8is E30 . Has just the right roads for an old under powered car with great handling.

When roads are almost empty, early morning or lunch break on weekends. It’s a pleasure to take narrow and curvy roads going up to Como’s lake to let the engine rev up loudly.

Sunday morning. Family is still sleeping and the roads are empty. From the south of Munich to the Alps, there one or two little mountain roads and than heading back to my family, the dog and a cup of coffee.

When I lived “down there”, I enjoyed driving up the Sudelfeld road on summer nights, parking the car and lounging on the truck-bed, watching the stars and listening to the cow bells.

Night.

I find the city and town lights soothing when passing by on the highway, also there is that kinda cold wind that really refresh after a hard day.

Pit stop at a Timmies and back on the road.

Early morning . Preferably either at the break of dawn before the dilettantes rubes and idiots hit the road .. or if a longer journey is on the books before dawn so we arrive where things become interesting just as dawn arrives . Day wise what ever is the opposite of what the majority is doing e.g. if heading to the Mts beaches etc … go up on Sunday … come back on Saturday
