The Morgan Motor Company has revealed images of a new limited edition version of the Plus 4, one that celebrates both the roadster’s 70th year of production and the retirement of the company’s tenured steel chassis.

Just 20 examples of the Plus 4 70th Anniversary Edition will be built, and will feature both cosmetic and performance tweaks. Unsurprisingly, deposits have already been sought for each of them.

Engine re-mapping and a new sports exhaust from Aero Racing, Morgan’s in-house motorsport specialists, team mean power from the Ford-sourced 2-litre four-cylinder has been upped from 154bhp to 180bhp, and while torque remains unchanged at 201Nm (148lb ft), the 0-100kph sprint is now down from 7.5 seconds to “less than seven seconds.” Power and torque and still sent to the rear wheels via a Mazda five-speed manual gearbox.

Easily the biggest cosmetic change is the bespoke Platinum Metallic paint – 70 years, right? – which “complements” four satin dark grey wire wheels. In a neat touch, the steel chassis, the retirement of which we spoke about in a previous news piece, has been painted gold for its send-off. A new “motorsport-inspired” front valance and “black pack” A-pillars, sidescreens and stone guard complete the exterior revisions. In the cabin meanwhile, a Ravenwood veneer dashboard, dark grey box weave carpets and a satin black Mota-Lita steering wheel, each of which is complimented by new leather upholstery.

Each of the 20 examples receives a commemorative plaque and a specially embroidered headrest. In a neat touch, customers of the Plus 4 70th Anniversary Edition will also receive a photographic Build Record. UK prices start from £60,995, or around $79,500 USD.
