The Elite marked a new era for Lotus. It was a proclamation that the small English company could be more than just a race and kit car manufacturer, that it was a firm capable of producing legitimate road machines.
This particular Elite has a legitimacy all its own. The seller states, “[I] purchased [it] from the second owner in 1984. I know both previous owners and have known the car since new.” He or she also states that this numbers-matching coupe comes with “many old receipts and correspondence.”
Eight years after taking possession of this fiberglass Brit, the current owner completely overhauled it. He or she says, “The car was completely disassembled and all worn parts [were] replaced, [while] others [were] repainted or plated.” The Coventry Climax inline-four was rebuilt and balanced. It features a “period-correct larger remote oil filter and oil cooler” and dual SU carburetors. It’s now connected to an Austin-Healey Sprite differential. Parts such as the hoses, bearings, seals, and U-joints were replaced. The windshield, back glass, and front wishbones are new.
Although this classic has around 90,000 miles on it, it’s only covered approximately 1,500 since its reconstruction.
