Five Classics For Sale Under $40,000

This week we’ve decided to share all of our Market Finds in one shot. But rather than share a random selection, we’ve decided to find interesting classics between $30,000 and $40,000. These are all located in the US, but include makes from different countries and cars ranging from sporty to off-road ready. Let us know if you buy one! 

The car: 1959 MG MGA

This Brit was restored in 1988, during the administration of a gifted orator–Ronald Reagan. In addition to once being featured in a magazine story, it has won numerous car show awards. Several components have been rebuilt, such as its 1.8-liter engine from an MGB and its transmission. The brakes were overhauled in 2013 and the leather interior, convertible top, and floor mats were replaced earlier this year. The owner states, “I have close to $20,000 in receipts for service and work that has been completed.”

The car: 1983 Land Rover Defender 110

After this “one[-]owner UK wagon was used in England as a people carrier rather than a workhorse vehicle around the original owner[‘]s country estate,” it was imported to the United States in March of 2012. Before its hop across the pond, this three-door’s chassis/underside was pressure-washed and wax-oiled. New parts include the tires, top, plugs, wires, fuel pump, battery, and brakes. The seller states, “The LT 95 4[-]speed gearbox with overdrive shifts smoothly and the differential transfer box works well in high and low range.” Most importantly, it was imported legally into the US.

While this convertible is no “Sunshine Special,” it does have its own nickname: “Yellowbird.” It also has a raft of new parts, all of which were added within the past year. This garage-kept two-seater has a new thermostat, carburetor, alternator, battery, and radiator, among other parts. The automatic transmission has been rebuilt. New Coker Classic whitewall tires are wrapped around chrome wire wheels, and complemented by the body’s fresh coat of Goldenrod Yellow paint. “The white hard top is in very good condition,” according to the current owner.

The car: 1969 Porsche 912

Representing Germany is this numbers-matching P-car. Ironically, its rust- and accident-free body is coated with Irish Green paint. This 912 is also fitted with “new points, new spark plugs, new Bosch battery, [and] new H4 headlights.” The four-cylinder engine’s Solex carburetors have been rebuilt and its valves have been adjusted. According to the seller, this car has had one owner over forty-five years. He or she also has service receipts and documentation to go along with this Teutonic two-door.

The car: 1970 Ford Mustang

Like FDR, the engine in this pony car is associated with the northern United States. President Roosevelt was from New York; the 351 cubic-inch V8 under the hood of this Mustang was built in Cleveland, Ohio It has 119,000 miles on it and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. This numbers-matching Blue Oval also comes with disc brakes and air conditioning. It might not be a presidential limousine, but it’s still an impressive sight.
