Michael Schumacher ‘In The Very Best Of Hands’ Says Family On His 50th Birthday

The family of Michael Schumacher has released a statement to reassure fans that Michael is ‘in the very best of hands’ as he continues to be cared for at the family home in Switzerland, on the banks of Lake Geneva. The seven-times Formula 1 World Champion suffered head injuries in a skiing accident on 29 December 2013, just a year after retiring from racing, and has not been seen in public since. His wife Corinna has insisted on secrecy since Michael was moved from hospital to the family home. “You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him,” the family said in a statement to Reuters news agency. “Please understand if we are following Michael’s wishes and keeping such a sensitive subject as health, as it has always been, in privacy,” it added.

An official Michael Schumacher app will be released today, January 3, to enable fans to review all his career successes. “The app is another milestone in our effort to do justice to him and you, his fans, by celebrating his accomplishments,” the family said. “Michael can be proud of what he has achieved, and so are we… we want to remember and celebrate his victories, his records and his jubilation.” Schumacher won his first two titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 before five in a row with Ferrari between 2000-2004, and remains F1’s most successful driver, with a record 91 grand prix wins.

The Keep Fighting Foundation has also created a virtual museum to mark Schumacher’s 50th birthday, and the Ferrari Museum will open a new special exhibition dedicated to him, intended both as a celebration and a mark of gratitude to the most successful Prancing Horse driver ever. The exhibition will look back over the seasons that the seven-time World Champion spent with Ferrari, and also show Michael’s crucial contribution to the development of GT cars in his years at Maranello, as a driver and later as a consultant.
