We like Autodromo because the company pulls off the difficult balancing act required to do a proper homage. Not a ripoff of a classic design, but clearly and cleverly inspired by the era it harks back to, the Group B line of wristwatches are perfect examples of how to do a tasteful tribute.

The Group B days of the WRC were without question the sport’s most brutal, and the cars looked the part; boxy, raw, supremely purposeful. There was little attention paid to appearances beyond the colorful liveries that were all but immediately caked in mud and blasted with debris come Stage 1, but the form of such an intense function inevitably becomes beautiful in its own way.

Autodromo’s Group B watches on the other hand, manage to channel the halcyon days of their namesake into a piece that is also beautiful by any traditional measure. Evoking the gauges and needles of the cockpits of rallying’s most ferocious, they are well-designed tributes to the period that don’t require an intimate knowledge of it to appreciate them.
