RM Sotheby’s Is To Hold The First Major Collector Car Auction In The Middle East

RM Sotheby’s has announced a partnership with Formula One to hold an auction of historic and collector cars as well as memorabilia at the 2019 Etihad Airways Grand Prix. The sale will take place at the Yas Marina circuit on Saturday, November 30, 2019, the day before the race—making it the first ever major sale of its type in the Middle East. It will focus on “a combination of selected Grand Prix cars and sports cars, as well as a wider range of classic and luxury cars” according to RM Sotheby’s. The auction house already has a strong history of historic Formula One car sales, including the Michael Schumacher 2001 Monaco Grand Prix-winning Ferrari (above), which sold for $7.5m.

Sean Brats, chief commercial officer of Formula One, said, “Everyone in the Formula One group has a passion for old and new cars. The opportunity to work with RM Sotheby’s is an exemplary collaboration project that highlights the beauty of classic cars as well as technologically advanced cars.” Tarek Al Ameri, chief executive of Yas Marina Circuit, added: “There is an increasing interest in car collection and souvenirs in the region… we look forward to welcoming the car enthusiast world at the Yas Marina Circuit on November 30th.”
