Soul Of Porsche Road Trip Celebrates Eight Generations Of The 911 Along Thailand’s Most Picturesque Roads

With the recent introduction of the eight-generation 911, Porsche decided that a road trip was in order one that would bring together all of the newcomer’s predecessors, one representative from each era, and let them loose on some stunning roads. The venue was Thailand and the eclectic selection of 911s were perfectly captured on film by an equally diverse group of photographers from the well-established like Porsche enthusiast Stefan Bogner to young up-and-comers such as Singaporean Instagram star Yik Keat. The combination of these talents resulted in beautiful images that perfectly captured both the cars and the eye-catching scenery.

The very earliest member of the group was a Porsche 912, owned by collector Isarin Chaleiysilpa, who also brought his 911 Club Sport and 964 Speedster along. They were joined by a stunning 996 GT3 RS that had just 800km (500-miles) on its odometer, a 997 Turbo, as well as what is believed to be the only 993 RS in the country. Another GT3, this one a 991, was driven by owner Maetup T-suwan who uses his track-bred sports car on a daily basis. Among this back-catalog of Porsche greats was the very first 992 in Thailand, provided by AAS Auto Service, the country’s sole authorised Porsche importer and exporter.

The journey took in some beautiful locations, starting in the southern city of Surranthi on the Gulf of Siam and winding its way all the way to Phuket on the Andaman coast. The drivers and their passengers thoroughly enjoyed the trip and while everyone had their favorite 911—Isarin Chaleiysilpa spent the most time behind the wheel of his 912—the younger generation were clearly taken with the looks and performance of the newer models. Natthapon Sahawat, a 21-year-old traveling with his father, was all smiles after driving the 992. “I love the interior,” he said, “but I like the exterior design too, it looks amazing. My generation likes the wider body.” There is no doubt that the modern machinery is far more dynamically capable than the older cars but regardless of their age, every 911 is a genuinely useable day-to-day sports car that has an enduring appeal.
