How, exactly, do you use a classic car? We advocate actually driving it—above all else—but this may mean few stone chips and other incidents can build up over time and conspire against owning a “perfect” car. Truth is: no car is perfect, so why not hoon your classic around Italy in an event like the Modena Cento Ore?
Our photographer Federico Bajetti caught up with the event as it raced (and finished) around the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello “as tradition requires”. The organizers have been hosting this three-leg coast-to-coast rally for the last 16 years; this year, the route sent competitors racing from Rimini to Florence and Forte dei Marmi, before finishing at Mugello.
As if driving amazing classic cars to the limit wasn’t enough, the event prides itself on its relaxed atmosphere and the things we sadly can’t capture in a gallery from the track: great hotels for participants and to-die-for food served at every stop.
It’s three circuits, 12 special stages, and four days—and an event organized around enthusiasts who are looking to drive their beloved cars as they were meant to be driven.
