Wedge-shaped cars look as if they can cut through the air all by themselves, but the truth is they need engines to do that. Fortunately, the 1.5-liter four-cylinder power plant with which this 1981 Fiat X1/9 started life, as well as other major parts, has been thoroughly refreshed.

The owner for the past nine years states that the “engine [has been] fully rebuilt and balanced with all new components.” This Italian two-seater’s “gearbox [has been] rebuilt with new synchros and bearings.” And it also has a “new clutch, CV joints, tyres, wheel bearings, exhaust system, brake master cylinder and hoses, [and] rebuilt brake calipers.”

A Road Worthy Certificate and twelve months of registration is included with the above hardware.

Perhaps most importantly, this 50,693-mile specimen of Bertone/Gandini design is lacking one thing: rust.

It is amazing that this car didn’t rust away into nothing at all given its reputation.
