Concours are helped immeasurably when they’re situated next to Lake Como, attract vehicles you can’t really see anywhere else, and have enough clout to attract even modern-day design houses to unveil new cars.
What began at the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este in 1929 continues today at Villa d’Este. Classes included “Pre-War Decadence”, “Pre-War Supercars”, “Cars of the Stars,” and “From Glam Rock To New Wave”—that last one featured both the rare Lamborghini Countach LP 400 “Walter Wolf” and the Ferrari Testarossa Spider we love so much.
Highlights for us here at Petrolicious include the searing yellow 1951 Pegaso Z-102 (winner of the “Young People’s Referendum”), the entire class of rally car entrants, and the svelte 1964 Abarth-Simca 1300 GT Corsa. Best in show from the jury went to a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, while the public voted a green 1950 Ferrari 166 MM as its pick.
