Pontiac reshuffled the Firebird lineup when the 1970 models debuted mid-year. The base Firebird remained, the Sprint and HO were dropped, and the Trans Am became its own full-fledged model. The new Esprit introduced a dash of luxury to the Firebird line, and the former Firebird 400 became the Formula 400.

In 1971, General Motors lowered compression on all its motors, but that doesn’t mean they lack the suds to bring a smile to your face; if anything, they’re great because they run well on today’s gas. This fully restored 1971 Firebird Formula 400 on eBay may be the perfect driver for those wanting muscle, plus it lacks all the gaudy boy-racer details that can make the Trans Am a bit too much for some. Painted in period-correct Quetzal Gold and equipped with AC, power steering and brakes, AM/FM radio, and those nifty Honeycomb polycast wheels, this Formula comes with the original bill of sale, sales contract, and a log of every expense from 1971 to 2011. With classic period styling and handling that was a step above the average muscle car, this Formula 400 is proof that American muscle doesn’t have to be a compromise.

This is not Quezal Gold. I’ve seen cars painted that color, it’s a more yellowy shade of gold.

Great color for the car. If it fits your taste, go for it. Never wanted one when I was driving at that age, but the success of those cars speaks for themselves, as they were very very popular. Fun to see on the road also.

I must admit im a sucker for the second gen Camaros and Firebirds. I always thought they were the best looking and best performing of the vintage muscle cars. I do agree the Trans am was a bit glitter and garish but this 400 firebird with the gold paint job has a very subtle cool look to it. It does have AC and power brakes and steering which should make the car more livable day to day. Also who doesnt love honeycomb wheels 😉

Those honeycomb wheels are Not factory correct for the Formula 400.
And yes, I don’t love them.
