What Do You Think Of The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept?

What’s not to love about Zagato? The Italian design house has survived decades now, past many of its contemporaries, because it does one thing really well: people remember what a Zagato looks like.

This Zagato happens to be an Aston Martin, and it beautifully reflects the styling of both firms. Since this isn’t the first time the carrozzeria has penned an Aston Martin (that honor goes to the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato) and so  this concept’s lines are as much of the past as the future.

Here, the Aston Martin Vanquish was re-crafted in carbon fibre to be both more rakish and extreme in function—just look at its front splitter and side skirts. Its retractable rear spoiler should come in handy once the 570-or so horsepower get whipped into a fury. Photographer Tim Scott caught the car at Villa d’Este (and look for more on that event shortly).

How much? Who knows—it’s a concept for now. If you want one, something tells us you already have Andrea Zagato’s number on speed dial. Is as often the case with projects like these, expect to see this car make the rounds at several auto shows and events over the next few years.

H/T to Zagato and Aston Martin

Maybe it’s just the color, but the front end looks like a giant goldfish.

Not a big fan of the gaping maw front end on many designs nowadays, although Aston has used it more successfully and for far longer than most in the design of their cars ,and so can be forgiven somewhat.

I was at Villa d´Este on the weekend and I had a good look at this car.
I must say It looks impresive. In my opinion was the best model out of all concepts together with the Mazda concept.I really loved the subtle changes on the surfaces, the strong front face, the different architecture of the rear end. Maybe the wheel design lacks a bit of presence and looks a bit weak, but the bodywork is absolutely superb.
I really hope they make a limited run of this model.
In my opinion this car is one of the best cars Aston is done in years. DB11 does not have same presence and surface emotion of this car (I saw one of the DB11 at Villa d´Este).
Belive me, this car on the flesh looks absolutely stunning

These new Astons look so similar to each other. The rear end of this one is horrible though. Too many conflicting lines and shapes.
I always thought Aston Martins were too big and cumbersome. This is the same.
Front is nice. 6/10

Front and rear facia’s are stunning – it’s the beltline I can’t quite get with.

Wheel choice I never care much about, as that can always be changed – and Aston’s factory wheels are always a bit ho-hum.

But have you heard it? It’s sublime

Looks like an aston, and every aston looks like every other aston.
The middle looks like a stratos from the side.

No sir, don’t like it. I really think the choice of wheels makes a strong impact on a first biew along with the color and neither of these hit the mark. If you haven’t seen the interior on this one yet, it looks like there are Zagato “Zs” all in the design material (thumbs down). Last negative, rear diffuser, babboon butt….

I like the front and rear light profiles but for much less a Z07 blows it away. And, if you haven’t seen the 2 prototype race cars for this model, they look really good.

Not a fan. The roofline makes it look like it is wearing a baseball cap turned backwards (a bit like the Mini Coupe).

I would take the ’87 Zagato in a heart beat.

Regardless of the rest, the rear diffuser looks like a full diaper (nappy) — low version of the Bangle Butt.

I prefer it to the new DB11.

I like it. Not a radically changed like that old V8, but not under done like the V12 Vantage. The big mouth works better on the Vanquish than the Vantage.

A bit excessive and overdone that unbelievably manages to make an Aston Martin look more like a tuner C7 than an Aston Martin… Zagats’s designers having lost the plot and missed the mark completely …. though it must be said bad as it may be its still a damn sight better than that travesty posing as a BMW 2002 homage .

And once again I’ll say it . Its becoming more obvious by the minute where the genuine talent is going when it comes to design be it automotive or motorcycles … and it aint within the corporate mainstream .

As far as whats not to like about Zagato ? The fact thats its no longer ‘ Italian ‘ and in fact hasn’t been since 2011 .. having been passed around like a loaf of unwanted bread from Russian oligarchs to British rule and god knows where to next like every other former Italian automotive design house in this ludicrous age of globalization . Thats what.
