For many, restoring a car with one’s father is a cherished opportunity. For Tomislav, his dream to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his father (a retired auto mechanic who Tomislav has to thank for his interest in cars) to restore a classic car finally came in the form of this stunning 1969 Mercedes-Benz 220D (W115).

Tomislav and his father poured nearly two years of dedication, part-hunting, and hard work into their project. Today, Tomislav jumps at every opportunity to take the car out for “joy rides”, as he called them. We asked him why he would put this phrase in quotes, and he assured us that it’s not just a play-on word, it’s literally because after every drive with his family is over, everybody leaves the car feeling nothing but joy.

For Tomislav, this car is a chariot ready to whisk his family away on extended weekend drives, to the market, or simply to explore roads they haven’t yet ventured upon. He drives his car with Don Williams Junior’s voice echoing in his head, ”The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destinations.”

Auto auctions can offer vehicles at significantly discounted prices, especially if you’re willing to purchase a used car. Online platforms such as Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Autotrader allow you to search for deals nationwide, increasing the chances of finding affordable options https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJv828XThSA

Classic Mercedes, that´s what I was always dreaming about. There was one rusty 116 in neighborhood I always want to find who´s the owner and buy it, but now when I can it´s not there. :/ But the dream is yet more stronger. And dreams are to come true. 🙂 One day…

Inspiring story. And love the photos, it looks really great on them, now I just imagine myself cruising at croatian roads, listening to ZZ Top…

I love those W115s, but ” a chariot ready to whisk his family away” seems quite ironic for a 55 or 60 hp (I don’t remember which) diesel powered car! :p

He he, yeah Luc I can see the irony that you are pointing and you’re quite correct. But I’m not in a hurry when I’m on those road trips so I don’t mind going slow (really slow). 🙂
