About the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed
The 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed took place from July 11 to July 14, marking the event’s 31st year. The festival celebrated a broad spectrum of motorsport. It highlighted the evolution of vehicle propulsion from early horseless carriages to modern hybrids and electric vehicles. This year’s theme was “Horseless to Hybrid – Revolutions in Power”. It emphasized the progress in automotive technology and the push towards sustainable power sources.
The event featured a variety of activities, including hillclimb events, rally stages, and demo runs. Notable highlights included the timed hillclimb shootouts, with practice runs starting on Friday and culminating in the Shootout Final on Sunday. The fastest time was set by Romain Dumas driving the Ford Supervan 4.2. He completed the hillclimb in 45.0 seconds. Scott Speed was a close second in the Subaru WRX: Project Midnight, with a time of 45.1 seconds.
Additionally, the festival showcased classic and contemporary vehicles, with special appearances from motorsport legends and demonstrations of cutting-edge autonomous driving technology. Fred Vesti, the Mercedes reserve driver, participated in hillclimb runs with the 2021 Mercedes F1 W12, adding to the excitement for F1 fans.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is known for its inclusivity, allowing fans to get close to the cars and drivers, creating an engaging and immersive motorsport experience and the 2024 edition was surely not different than previous years.
