OFFICIAL: Alfa’s Giulia QV Is The New ‘Ring King

By Michael Banovsky
September 16, 2015

It’s believable to me that the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV is faster than modern rivals like the BMW M4, but I’m most surprised that—based on lap time alone—it could have qualified on pole for the 1970 1000kms of Nürburgring. By some four seconds.

Although bagging lap times is very much frowned upon in 2015, I can’t blame Alfa for its humblebrag by announcing its new 510 horsepower super sedan will circulate in as little as 7:39. Things change a lot in 45 years, but it’s notable that you’ll soon be able to buy a car faster than the factory Porsche 908/03 and Ferrari 512 S race cars, at least at the Nürburgring.

Is it starting to sound good yet?

Honestly it is so refreshing to see Afla returning to their roots. Now if only Lancia could do the same. Look forward seeing this in US. Looks bit nicer then my 79 Sport Sedan.

Love the car and excitement around it but hate the comments 😉

Whether this car will really shake it’s German rivals or not it’s still fun to see all the debate about it.

LOL – Oh please calm down everybody!
There has always been tomfoolery and skullduggery when it comes to performance figures (‘top trumps’ anyone?…), so not for a minute do I believe we are naïve to this nor do we need lecturing about it from self proclaimed sage petrolistas of what whatever persuasion…

I’m just happy that there’s a potential alternative from the usual Teutonic options – of which I currently drive!

So here is the question I’m interested in – when will Petrolicious have a road test?

You know what Mr Banovsky ? .. With some of the barbs I’m getting when it comes to my comments about any of FCA’s products past or present .. with no blame towards yourself or Petrolicious staff intended or implied I’m getting the very distinct feeling there’s more than a few … how shall we say this … paid FCA shills lurking and posting ’round these here parts . Not to mention the distinct possibility of a Sockpuppet or two … once again coming from FCA [ and I do mean the whole of FCA including Ferrari ]

Now I’m not asking you you remove them [ as they no doubt are asking you when it comes to me ] .. but I will request that when they come across with blatantly insulting posts you give me a bit of leeway when it comes to my responses .

Also …. if … and I say if … perhaps FCA is sponsoring the site in any way via the backdoor I and I’m sure most other readers would appreciate a bit of transparency on your part in order to understand any limitations that may be place on our ability to criticize FCA [ I for one do comprehend the needs of the market place as well as the sites financial needs and do not wish to step on any toes that might harm the site ] as well as the distinct possibility of a corporate shill or two’s presence …

Finally though .. a bit of genuine investigative journalism rather than just spewing our regurgitating the manufactures claims regardless would be appreciated … because .. as I and many others have said so often of late [ including Peter D’Lorenzo etc ] .. when it comes to todays auto makers and their spin doctors ..

” Everybody Lies ” … about everything

Things like this lap time comparison with the legends of old are compelling from a marketing standpoint, but in no other. I’d love to see how a new Honda Odyssey minivan would compare around the ring to a Jaguar XKE or how a BMW 328ix Wagon would compare to a Ferrari 330GT or something. To me, it would be staggering if 45 or 50 years of engineering progress DIDN’T produce such dramatic increases in performance, but it’s hardly staggering to me that it does.

……. ultimately these ‘ Ring Bling ‘ lap times are meaningless because in fact they are all to a number manufactured fantasies with intent to deceive … as well as to shift our attention away from the facts

Well, so far the news seems to be all good. Clearly Ferrari have been spending a reasonable amount of time helping Alfa. if the quality is good then it would appear to be a real alternative to zee Germans. Though more carbon fibre and chrome in the engine bay would likely be appreciated by new owners who is they have ever seen that 3.0 V6 will remember how beautiful it looked.

Where’s that hapless 15 year old troll Guitar Slinger? He’s late! I clicked on this hoping to read more of his fantasy stories about this new Dodge… 😉

15 ? Try genuine bonafide Boomer sonny boy ! If my posts and the subjects I cover not to mention the culturally references I use haven;t told you that already … well then son .. you obviously are skilled at missing the obvious . And just because you’re shilling for FCA [ or worse are one of those completely blinded/deluded by FCA ] doesn’t make anything I say about their products in the least bit fantasy . Fact is unlike you and a few other ‘ True Believers ‘ / Marchionne drones I can back up every word I say .. including with quotes from FCA/FIAT/Marchionne themselves . As far as this most recent ludicrous claim coming from the spin doctors at FCA I say ..

HorseFeathers !!! … because ..

1) If you’ve been paying attention to the automotive and business news [ e.g READ ] lately you’d know performance runs [ by manufactures as well as the public ] have been banned by the powers that be at the ‘ Ring ‘ due to the recent accidents as well as financial woes

2) To quote Sabine the Ring Queen when it comes to any manufactures performance claims at the ‘ Ring ‘ .. they are all abject manufactured ‘ Fiction ‘ Fact is there is no ‘ official ‘ starting or finish line [ lap distances vary up to a 1/4 of a mile ] .. second there is NO independent 3rd party involved to verify ANY of the manufactures claims .. which to reiterate is to say .. every claim made by every manufacture at the ‘ Ring ‘ is pure and blatant fantasy .. or to put it another way … ” Everybody Lies ” .. fourth .. do you really believe a Holden/Camaro was really capable of breaking any records anywhere … in the rain ?

But hey … y’all just keep on believing / shilling . In light of FCA’s drastic financial woes .. [ there’s a reason Marchionne’s begging at everyones doors for loans , subsidies and partnerships ] lets see how that works out for you ! As far as the 15 year old troll comment ? Seriously son .. is that the best comment you can come up with ? Pre adolescent online insults ? Sad .. truly sad … you and yours have my sympathies ..

In closing though to walk away on a more positive note . To quote the bard PopEye ;

” I knows what I knows .. and I knows I don’t knows everything .. but what I knows … I knows very well ”

And when it comes to my two automotive pet peeves … those being FCA in general and Badge Engineering specifically … guaranteed son I know more about both than you’re capable of ever learning … but you’re more than welcome to challenge me on either subject … anytime … anywhere .. including a court of law .. 😉

Bait taken… troll hooked!! And he’s off, I think he’s swallowed the hook…! (sound of fishing reel screaming…) Feisty little bugger isn’t he…?

Ladies and Gentlemen, what we have here is an internet troll. They exist solely to wind up commenters and contributors of internet message boards and forums. This particular specimen appears to have assumed the personality of a dried up old twit who believes himself to be an expert on the automotive industry. Interesting subject matter. So maybe some of you have a teenager at home who won’t leave the damn house. He may not be jacking off to “#Kardashians Booty Tumblr” or playing “Resident Evil”. No, that socially awkward off spring you spawned with the complexion of one of Domino’s products, may well be trying to bait you and your peers online. Don’t be too hard on him though, it’s tough when you’ve spent the day at school avoiding wedgies from the senior kids…

If only he’d get a girlfriend…

Great to see an Alfa perform like this, just wish the side styling had more flair and that the rear tail lights hadn’t been aped from Maserati.

Just a quick typo correction, its Giulia not Giulietta.

Yes it’s quick, (and Hooray for a big RWD Alfa!), but while it’s faster than a Mercedes/Mclaren SLR it’s slower than a Camaro Z28. Congratulations Alfa Romeo for having the fastest four door car around the Nurburgring! (BMW M5 was 7:55 according to https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/)

Someday … sometime .. somewhere .. somebody’s going to actually READ .. dig for the facts .. and investigate ludicrous and non verifiable claims made by manufactures rather than take / believe them at face value . But then again re-reading ” Brave New World ” … probably not . Entertainment TRUMPing [ and I use that here in the US with absolute sarcastic intent ] reality and facts each and every time … sigh ….

Matthew Lange

The Nurburgring has changed a lot since 1970 though, so the times are not exactly comparable. Check out this footage from 1971, the Ring has had a lot of the undulations smoothed out since then. http://youtu.be/C-fj-OP_p7c

…. and if you’ve read Sabine the Ring Queen’s multiple quotes both online and in print you’ll also know that the lap distances used by the manufactures to accomplish their ‘ claimed ‘ lap times varies upwards of a 1.4 of a mile … plus or minus .

Oh for the day when ‘ Ring Bling ‘ amongst the pretentious marketing mavens in the automotive industry finally goes out of fashion … sigh …………
