Aston Martin Reveals Exterior Styling Details Of The Upcoming DBS GT Zagato

Even amongst the rarefied world of the multi-million dollar limited-edition offerings from prestige manufacturers, the DBZ Centenary Collection is a cut above just about anything you might have seen before. Consisting of a DB4 GT Zagato continuation and a specially-designed DBS GT Zagato, the pair costs £6-million ($7.5-million) and only 19 of each will be created.

Both models celebrate 100-years of the famous Zagato coachbuilder and, while the specifics of the DB4 GT Zagato have been largely revealed, the visual details of the new DBS GT Zagato had been kept a secret. We do know that it will be based on the impressive DBS Superleggera, which has a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 producing 715hp and 663 lb-ft of torque, but Aston Martin has now also shown the details of this car’s stunning Zagato-styled exterior in a series of new renders.

The images reveal the classic flowing lines that typify a Zagato design and, at the front, a newly created ‘dynamic’ grille features 108 diamond-shaped carbon-fiber pieces that open up once the car is started. Marek Reichman, chief creative officer at Aston Martin Lagonda said, “This is a car that is not only focused around beauty, but drama too. Our dynamic grille gives us an opportunity to provide the car with two very different identities. When parked, DBS GT Zagato will almost look like it’s resting, but with the rear of the car still appearing muscular and primed for action. Only on start-up will the car truly become alert and ready to perform, delivering both an aural and visual treat for onlookers”.

A camera-operated rearview mirror replaces the standard item, which allows for a dramatic full-length carbon-fiber roof adding to the flowing lines of the car.  Reichman adds, “Form and function are constantly in battle with one another, but this is a great example of where we have been able to utilize modern technologies to ensure no concession has been made on either side. It was important to me and our teams to deliver something as beautiful as the original DB4 GT Zagato and I feel that we have achieved that with this model and I can’t wait to see it in the metal”.

That day should be in the latter part of 2020 when the DBS GT Zagato is set to go into production, where each will join the DB4 GT Zagato cars that should already be with their 19 lucky owners by then.
