Meet The Petrolicious Team This Sunday At The ArtCenter Car Classic

Claims that Italy is home to history's finest automotive designers are unlikely to be disputed, but it would be naive to assume that the trade is only cultivated in the country that's put it to such good use. ArtCenter College of Design, located in Pasadena, California, is one such satellite that's been consistently producing the kinds of designers who go on to shape the ever-evolving forms of our transportation from the helms of the world's leading manufacturers, and this weekend their annual ArtCenter Car Classic will assemble a collection of remarkable machines representing this year's theme of Italian, American, and French design. The theme will bring together notable cars from those countries along with many representations from many more, but that's just a part of the full day's experience which includes tours of the facilities, interviews with designers, exhibitions of student work, and more. Every year this event ends up being one of our favorites, and we're excited to be involved again for the 2017 edition, so if you see us by our tent come say hello! Considering all the intriguing metal around us though, we may not be sitting there like the bored vendors you're used to seeing at shows. The cars alone are of course worth the trip—any collection amassed and curated by a college known for churning out top automotive designers is sure to include more than your garden variety vintage metal—but the really unique aspect comes from the people. Not only in the stories that the cars' owners have to share, but from the fact that many of the people you'll encounter will be designers themselves, who are accomplished, aspiring, or otherwise simply enthralled with the form of the automobile. It's my guess that few vintage car events, and most likely none, will be this littered with people from the industry's aesthetic elite and hopeful set alike. So if you want to look at gorgeous specimens of industrial design and be surrounded by troves of people who will be penning the next wave of such cars, this is the place to be.
