I knew that 964 RS had no sound insulation or other amenities, but I didn’t know that the whole thing was seam welded. That is serious. I love that.

Am I correct in assuming that, in it’s current condition, this car could not be licensed and driven in California, with all of it’s smog regs?
Incorrect, it is now exempt via the “25 year” import rule and can be registered.

The car is, in fact, called out by year and model on the Federal Show and Display list. This may be how it came over the Canadian border.
@ 7:43 “When you meet another car GUY, whether an Architect, a Doctor or a Lawyer…” I suppose that sums up most Porsche drivers social circles and perspective. I guess Teachers, Nurses, Police officers, tradies etc aren’t car GUYS and will never afford hipster Porsches.

He did come off a bit pretentious at times (and especially in that statement), but I get the impression he may have grown up privileged. Maybe he’s just speaking honestly from his own perspective. “Car people” that I’ve known are cut from all walks of life, and I like that car culture is independent of other social labels. This guy’s pretty young, and I doubt he meant to sound judgemental or prejudiced.

In 10th grade I attended a new high school in Fairbanks, Alaska. The first day of PE class we went for a run starting in the the teacher’s parking lot. My jaw dropped upon seeing a new 930 Turbo in all it’s splendor. That social studies teacher (now retired) still owns it!
It’s an amazing car! I am in the midst of selling my LHD ‘92 RS. I’ve owned it 5 years and i’ll be very sad to see it go!
The film was fantastic and captures all the aspects that really appealed to myself as well!

I find it unfortunate that there is no Personal Messaging capability on this message board. Perhaps the management of this website will rethink that at some point, and allow a broader bandwidth exchange. It seems like an opportunity overlooked.
Eli – Nicely done! It’s so good to see an owner really driving their car especially a young enthusiast like you and don’t forget to be grateful every time you get to pilot such a wonderful machine. There are plenty of us out here that have dreamed of it for many years. Hit the redline and get sideways a couple times for me!

There seem to be a few different 964s on the show and display list. This car has been legal for a couple of years under the simpler 25 year rule. Eli Kogan mentions the 25 year rule around 3:08. However he also says that he brought this car across the Canada line a ‘few’ years ago, which might be over the line. So it is not wholly clear.
Okay. Found it. The 1992 Carrera RS is called out by name on the DoT Show and Display list. Under the terms of that law, however, the car could only be driven 2,500 miles per year. This car is driven routinely. By this point in time Kogan must be operating under the 25 year rule, which has very few restrictions either on emissions or on safety equipment. A 1992 clears that bar by at least one year.
Interesting about the thinner window glass, the absence of any sound deadening insulation and the magnesium wheels.

Another enjoyable petroleum filled video and great to see another owner who drives their car. Great stuff and another really enjoyable watch!! I never thought I would say this BUT, well I must admit, Porsche, they really do make a car for the everyman and for when the driving mood takes you!!
