Nash was a medium-priced “independent” whose first brand-new post-war vehicle – the “Airflyte” – was different than anything else on the road. Despite its lack of convention, Nash sold 130,000 cars in 1949, divided between the 600 and the luxurious Ambassador.
Only 2,072 of those were Ambassador Super Special two-door sedans. This one may be familiar to Petrolicious readers as we featured it in February. It is mostly original with 26,000 miles, having been stored for over fifty years until not too long ago. The headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and interior lights all work. Also functioning fine are the heater and blower. The carburetor and fuel pump have been rebuilt, the gas tank and fuel lines have been cleaned. However, a few other things need attention: the radio needs refurbishment and the antenna is missing, the clock is not hooked up, the overdrive is finicky, the reverse and high beam lights don’t work, and there is a slight oil or tranny leak. It’s street-legal in California, which says a lot, so it’s ready for someone to continue making it road-worthy while respecting its originality.
