This 1964 Jaguar E-Type Was Just Brought Back From The Dead
Everyone loves a good barn-find story; discovering some long-forgotten classic car is like finding buried treasure. Luckily, a U.K.-based shop has given this Jaguar E-Type a fairytale ending with an astounding overhaul.
The restoration specialist E-Type UK (we’ll let you guess what they specialize in) has completed a top-to-bottom, full restoration of this 1964 Jaguar E-type Series I 3.8 FHC. The Jag had been found sitting in the previous owner’s garage since 1979 and, while it first looked like the shelter had kept it in good condition, further examination showed it was rotting badly, due to poor previous repairs and that typical British dampness.
Whole sections of the floor and sills had to be replaced, and E-Type UK even replaced every suspect piece of metal to make the car stiffer than when new. The body was re-sprayed in its original Opalescent Silver Blue while the interior was done in a rich Oxblood red, which also matches the vinyl ‘bonnet mouth’ added to the front.
Of course, the experts didn’t stop with looks. They’ve also added upgraded independent rear suspension and better brakes. The 3.8-liter inline six was also completely rebuilt with high-lift cams and a balanced, lightened crankshaft, thereafter connected to a new five-speed gearbox. Difficult to imagine but easy to see, this Jag is now better than when it rolled off the assembly line 56 years ago.
