This Nissan Skyline DR30 Is A Red Panda
Cars like this one were reasonably plentiful in the day out here in Oz, be it the 4 door or 2 door Skyline Turbos. The Nissan team were highly successful with them, winning most of the major race series including at Bathurst.
However, when hearing what a pig of a car they really were to race, in comparison to some of the other cars (eg BMW 635 CSI, Volvo 244 Gt etc), you really have to admire how skilled the drivers were.
There is no doubt that this model Skyline was though the genesis for the more legendary later series Skylines R32s etc.
Not my type of car but I do understand his passion for his car.
Beautiful car. Great film once again Petrolicious. I can attest to the wonderful feeling of having a RHD JDM import here in the states as well. Every time you get in you get a sense of uniqueness. And even though my ’85 Hilux Surf was nowhere near as cool as this Skyline, it’s still the same concept. Getting parts for the car is always a bit of a hassle, but totally worth it at the end of the day, especially if it’s for your dream car. Congrats to Jay Kho on achieving his dream car!
When those were new, R30 and R31 Skylines, some of us – as a matter of fact, a lot of us – didn’t take them seriously. We were still very much mourning the death of GT-R, so whenever conversation turned to sporty Skyline, we sighed and said, “well, it’s still not…” Once in a while, I see one those on the road when I visit home, and look back at myself with a slight shame. R30 has grew into a really cool car.
