We’ve recently featured iconic cars made famous by Hollywood: the Back to the Future DeLorean, the Dukes Of Hazzard ‘General Lee’ Charger, and the very personable Volkswagen Beetle from The Love Bug.

We may know and love the cars seen in Hollywood movies, but what do film stars actually choose to own?

For the majority of drivers, cars are chosen based on practical needs, but for those living a glamorous lifestyle with a seemingly endless budget, the choice becomes an exclusive interpretation of one’s self.

The alluring actors and actresses of the ’50s and ’60s lived extravagant lives. This week we’ve featured three cars inspired by those vehicles film stars were proud to own.

Good:

The car: 1955 Ford Thunderbird
Price: $69,500
Location: Dallas, Texas, USA
Seller’s Info: Click here

The 1955 Thunderbird was a choice of Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe.

Although all three would eventually acquire more exotic cars, in 1955, they chose the all-new model by Ford. When the Thunderbird was introduced, it created a new segment in America, the “personal luxury car.” It wasn’t overtly performance-minded like the Chevrolet Corvette but made a fine cruiser. Can you imagine driving a Thunderbird on California’s Pacific Coast Highway in 1955?

This one owner example was restored, and features a stunning two-tone white and black interior.

Better:

The car: 1966 Jaguar XKE Roadster
Price: $165,000
Location: Paris, France
Seller’s Info: Click here

The ‘Series 1’ Jaguar XKE enjoys one of the longest lists of Hollywood owners, like Tony Curtis, Brigitte Bardot, and Steve McQueen. The drop-top XKE Roadster embodied the glamour and refinement of the affluent, and was available with the performance to impress the likes of Steve McQueen.

This finely restored (and certified by Jaguar Heritage) example was imported to France from California, and includes its original hard top and manuals.

Best:

The car: 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL
Price: $1,675,000
Location: Long Island, New York, USA
Seller’s Info: Click here

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was the favorite among many beautiful people of Hollywood. Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida and Glenn Ford are just a few privileged enough to own a Gullwing.

Born as a factory racecar, the timeless 300 SL is as aesthetically pleasing and elegant today as when it was new. This particular example has been restored to its original specifications, and includes matching fitted luggage. If you have the money, give us a call after taking delivery!
