Two and a half years ago in New York City, I started a publication for the Thrillist Media Group called Supercompressor, it was a passion project that incorporated just about everything in my life that I loved: cars, tech, gear, design, you name it—if it was something I liked, we covered it.
Leading up to that project, however, I’d spent just about every free moment I had reading sites like Petrolicious, Hodinkee (for my watch fix), and a handful of others. I was enamored with the way that people like our founder, Afshin Behnia, were able to pour their heart and soul into something that could be enjoyed by so many.
Petrolicious is a utopian idea, really: a clubhouse online for us all to geek out over the minutiae. Things like the subtle, almost intangible differences between Euro and non-Euro spec headlights. The catechismic importance of the Gulf livery. The bizarre beauty of the Lancia Stratos.
In many ways, I fell in love with the idea of Petrolicious long before Afshin and I ever spoke about what I believe it can become. And what will it become? How will we build a glorious offering to the car gods without compromising the quality that Petrolicious stands for? We just will, by giving you more of what we’re known for.
Over the coming months, as Petrolicious grows and expands, you’ll never find cheap tricks or click baity headlines backed up by shoddy images. You’ll never find bizarre, out of place advertisements for Canadian Viagra, or any of that crap. No, what you’re going to find is a slow and considerate expansion of everything that you’ve come to know and love from us. More heartfelt storytelling. Increasingly immersive images. World class filmmaking, and much more.
It’s a supreme (and almost surreal) honor to work alongside this team, and I can’t possibly express how excited I am to help move us forward.
