Vic Elford is a living legend of motorsport, celebrated for his outright speed as well as his mastery of the world’s longest and most challenging race courses like the Nürburgring and the Targa Florio. His name is inextricably linked with the Porsche marque, having won many significant races for Stuttgart throughout the 1960s. He was the first man to campaign the 911 in rally events, eventually winning the Monte Carlo rally for Porsche. He was once again at the wheel of a Porsche when he crossed the finish line first at the Daytona 24 hours, winning the comapny’s first ever 24-hour race. In the 908, he won the Nurburgring 1000km race a total of three times, and in the fearsome 917 langheck, Elford dominated the 1970 Le Mans for 18 hours until his car broke. Elford’s extraordinary versatility led to a rich and diverse career, encompassing Rally, Endurance Racing, Road Racing, Formula 1, Trans Am, Can Am, NASCAR, and even the Paris Dakar Rally.

Autodromo has collaborated with Vic Elford to create the Prototipo Chronograph – Vic Elford Edition, a limited-edition timepiece to commemorate his legendary victory at the 1968 Targa Florio race in Sicily, remembered as one of the great drives of all time. Over the course of the race, he turned an 18-minute deficit into a three-minute-42-second margin of victory, breaking his own lap record multiple times in the process.

With a dial inspired by the colorful paintwork on Elford’s Porsche 907, this special edition is limited to 224 numbered pieces, corresponding to Elford’s race number. The caseback features a map of the Targa Florio circuit, which wound through the villages and mountain passes of Sicily, as well as Elford’s practice lap record and race lap record, which was a full 45.4 seconds faster. The Vic Elford Prototipo comes in special edition collectors-box packaging along with a 44-page booklet hand-signed by Elford himself.

When I conjure up images of any of my favorite racing cars, chances are they were piloted by “Quick Vic.”
Blazingly fast, he also exhibited true sportsmanship on the track. In my opinion, he drove the coolest cars on the coolest circuits in the coolest era of motorsport.
I have several books signed by the man, still within the lovely handwritten packaging signed by his wife. Class acts through and through.

I stumbled across this watch not too long ago, and love it. 🙂 Stylish class, representative of a living legend. Looks fast, too.

Thanks for sharing.
