Vintage cars from parts of the country that don’t see snowfall and its associated road salt have a reputation for being well-preserved. There’s a reason for that and it’s based on cars such as this west coast 1963 Studebaker Avanti, which has aged so gracefully that even its original dealer invoice and factory build sheets are intact. Its history is fully documented. Those records include registration cards as well as a copy of the previous title. Of course, the fiberglass coupe’s undercarriage is in great condition. On top of all of that, this 42,300-mile car has “been in the same family since new.”

However, even the best-kept fifty-one year-old classic needs some TLC. Yet this one has had it. Its current owner says this Avanti features “new paint, carpet, newly chromed bumpers, new master cylinder/brake cylinders, new tires.”

The red interior provides some comfort of its own in the form of power windows. Those, along with the gray exterior, are rare features, according to the owner.

Studebaker manufactured fewer than 4,600 Avantis in 1963. Three years later, the company made its very last car. So this specimen of Mr. Raymond Loewy’s design is not only a vehicle, it’s a piece of American automotive history. A well-kept one, too.
