Just over six months ago, Autodromo’s founder and lead designer Bradley Price introduced us to the Group B—an automatic wristwatch inspired by the “unfettered technical ingenuity,” design language, and spirit of the Group B era of rallying. Immediately, both watch and motorsport enthusiasts alike took notice of this timepiece’s lightweight, two-piece construction, and gauge-like dial, both of which were reminiscent of the techniques and components used in producing the great rally cars of the 1980s.
With the dust of the last release just beginning to settle, Autodromo is back at it again with the next piece in their line of race-inspired wristwatches, the limited edition Group B Evoluzione. At 42 mm across, the watch is slightly larger than its 39 mm predecessor in stainless steel, though this extra real estate has certainly been put to good use, as they’ve chosen to leave the CNC-milled aerospace aluminum chassis unfinished, to reflect the manufacturing process, and to achieve a look that is best described as “ruggedly beautiful”.
Autodromo is fitting this evolution of the original Group B watch with a sunburst-finished silver dial, accented with your choice of yellow or blue markings—each being equally striking. Additionally, it’s also worth noting that much like the previous watch, the Evoluzione makes use of the workhorse movement that is the Japanese-made Miyota Cal. 9105, ensuring a reliable ownership experience for years to come.
All of this comes neatly packaged inside a hand-folded, aluminum collectors box, in which you’ll find four cross-stitched nylon straps produced in the colors of your favourite team liveries, and thanks to their simple, pull-through construction, the straps are easily changeable without the use of tools.
Seeing as this release is limited to just 200 pieces, to signify the number of road going cars required to be built by manufacturers for homologation to compete, it’s suggested that you act quickly if interested in this one.
