Out of Proportion: Alex Staidle Draws Shopify's Race Car

Alex Staidle started drawing three or four years ago, on the side of a healthcare job in Gualala, California. The first time he sold a piece at a local art show, he went looking for it, sure it had been lost.
This fall he drew Shopify founder Tobi Lütke’s #14 TDS Racing Oreca LMP2, the car Tobi drove in his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut this June, with Petrolicious riding along on its livery. The one-off print, made with Petrolicious to commemorate that race, appears in a special edition of The Petrolicious Post at the Shopify booth at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Alex sells his work through his own Shopify store and through Petrolicious on Shopify Collective, which is how his drawings get in front of our readers. The film follows him at his desk, black line in ink first and color in marker after, working on his days off to get it done in about 10 days.
